Managing custom templates

Overview

This document provides a step-by-step workflow for creating custom templates within the SoftwareCentral Tenant Manager platform. Custom templates can be used when you need to define a standardized baseline that can be applied across multiple tenants.

Prerequisites

  • Administrative access to the Tenant Manager portal.
  • One tenant is defined as gold tenant.

How to Access Templates

  1. Locate the Menu: Look at the navigation sidebar on the far-left side of your screen. Click on the three bars under the SoftwareCentral logo.

  1. Navigate to Templates: Select the Templates option.

Result: The Templates dashboard will open, displaying your custom templates.

Create a Custom Template

In this section, we will cover how to create your own custom template, guiding you through the configuration and setup required.

  1. Locate Create Template: Click on Create Template.

 

  1. Create New Template: Enter a name for the new template and select the gold tenant. Next, select the backup that contains the policies, you would like to create your template on.


  1. Select Policies for New TemplateNow is the time to select the policies for the template. You can select all or individual policies with or without assignments. Once that’s done, select confirm and the template will be created.


  1. Template Created: Your template is ready. You can update and delete the template from the templates section.


  2. Deploy Your New Template

In this section we will go over how to deploy your newly created template to your tenants.

  1. Locate Deploy: Click on the Deploy section.

  1. Deploy the Template: Select the target tenant and the template you wish to use. Select all or individual policies in your template and select whether it should include assignments or not. Lastly click confirm to deploy the template.


  1. On-Demand Drift Check against Template


  2. Once your template is deployed to your tenants, you have the possibility to check if your configuration has drifted from the desired state. In this section we will show how you can perform a on-demand drift check.

  1. Locate Tenants: Click on the Tenants section.

  1. Drift Check: Select the drift check option under tenant actions.

  1. Perform Drift Check: Locate the target tenant, then select the template category and pick own templates. Choose the template, you wish to use for the drift check. Click check for drift to start the process.

  1. Scheduled Drift Check against Template

In addition to on-demand drift checks, you can configure scheduled drift checks against a template in Tenant Manager. This section describes how to setup this functionality.

  1. Locate SettingsClick on the Settings tab.

  1. Configure Drift Check: Under the drift check section, configure the drift check to use a template by flipping the switch. Once that’s done it will change to template instead of backup.

  1. Modify Settings: Select your desired template, and configure your schedule based on how often you want to check drifts. Lastly remember to click save.
